Senior management

Dr. Houghton graduated from Sheffield University’s Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering in 1982, before gaining his PhD in high-performance processor architectures and image processing. Dr. Houghton then went on to teach, joining the University’s Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering as a Lecturer, and taught Electronics and Software.

In 1998, Dr. Houghton joined Quadrant Video Systems as an Electronic Design Engineer and Firmware Developer, where he progressed his career through the position of Lead Hardware Engineer, on to become Hardware Technical Director in 2012.

Dr. Houghton joined 21st Century as chief Technical Officer in 2016, to apply his knowledge and expertise across the group.

Mark has over 20 years’ experience working within technology companies, the past seven of which have been focused within the transportation sector. He has held positions within service delivery, IT and product development. Mark has a history of supporting key UK and European customers to deliver on-board technology and back-office management systems. This work on complex technical projects has enabled 21st Century Technology to expand into Scandinavia and establish long-term framework agreements.

Phil received a degree in Mathematics from the University of Leeds in 1991 before going on to become a Chartered Management Accountant.  He has over 10 years' experience as a finance director and controller within SMEs and has worked in both AIM listed and private companies, building much of his experience in manufacturing environments.

Martin has over 25 years' experience working within technology companies, over 10 of which have been in the transportation sector.  

Martin has been pivotal in the developing third party applications and back office management software for use in customers' integrated transport systems in addition to managing the in-house systems of 21st Century.  Martin's work on complex customer requirements has made him a key component of 21st Century's success with large fleet operators and overseas accounts.

Darren joined 21st Century in 2005 following university and a year working in public service for the Home Office and now benefits from over 10 years’ experience in the transport technology sector. Darren began his career at 21st Century in the planning department and made significant contributions to the efficient management of stock and engineer resources. He then moved into IT, overseeing an internal roll-out of handheld devices for engineers that interfaced with the back office system and creating user manuals for customer use with 21st Century provided software.

Darren now focuses on Marketing and Communications for 21st Century.

James joined 21st Century in 2017 and has a wealth of experience in National Service Manager roles within technology-led SMEs. Since joining 21st Century, James has already thrown himself into the technology that he is working with, completing an audit on over 800 screens for a large PTE personally.
